The Origin of mōtus
I graduated college fat and out of shape with a Fitness Management Degree.
The irony, right?
Unhappy with myself, I couldn’t believe the point I had let this get to to.
To top it off… I was unhappy with my inability to take the weight off and get in shape despite studying the very subject for 4 years of college and to obtain multiple certifications.
You can only tell yourself, “I’m bulking up” for so long.
This is the cycle that kept repeating:
I’d make a little progress
Screw up and throw in the towel for the rest to the week
Beat myself up over failing and eat junk food
Start again on Monday
It seemed like there was no end.
So, I went back the drawing board and started over from square one.
Instead of looking for something new, I looked back… literally.
Back to my college textbooks - Anatomy, Physiology and Exercise Science.
Then on to translated manuals from the “Soviet Sport Machine”, the creators of the fittest people of the time.
This is when the light bulb went off, it became apparent it was all tied together.
I noticed, unlike any of the other popular programs the methods laid out in the Soviet manuals used a systematic approach to training that lead to:
Stronger, toned muscles
Lower body fat levels
Increased endurance, stamina and energy
As it turns out, building your fitness was like building a house, you have to start with the foundation.
The reason I wasn’t getting results before was I wasn't ready for most of the exercises the popular programs told me to do.
I was actually working out TOO HARD with TOO MUCH VARIETY!
So, I dialed it back and it was like the seas parted. My weight started to drop, I wasn’t exhausted all the time, I got stronger and I really started to enjoy training again.
I built up my “foundation” and it paid off.
I lost nearly 60lbs and have kept it off since 1998.
I’ve gone from overweight college “powerlifter” to being in better shape than most people half my age, I’m 41 for the record. (You can read my full Bio and about the rest of the team HERE)
Through years I have tweaked the system.
I knew it needed to be able to accommodate “the old me”, the “new me” and everybody in between who wants to look better, feel better and live longer.
So, that’s what I’ve done and that’s how mōtus came to be.
